Bengaluru: All the state-owned electricity supply companies including BESCOM, Bengaluru, MESCOM, Mangaluru have proposed a steep increase in the power tariff in the new financial year 2019-20.

According to the sources, the ESCOMS have approached the Karnataka State Electricity Regulatory Authority (KERC) seeking an upward revision of power tariff between Rs. 1 to Rs.1.65 per unit. “The BESCOM is seeking Rs.1.45 increase per unit while the MESCOM is seeking Rs.1.45 increase per unit,” said an officer from the state energy department.

“This is the annual process. Every year ESCOMS increase power tariff based on the increase in the power production cost. The KERC will take a final decision after holding a public consultation,” informed authorities.
