Engg student hacks VTU website, says easy for ordinary hacker to alter data

Bengaluru: An engineering student from the city hacked the website of the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) with an intention of alerting the university about the vulnerability of its website.

Following the development the VTU has decided to redesign the university website.

The hacker, S Shravan Kumar, a final semester B E student from Brindavan Engineering college of the city has made it clear that purpose of this hacking is not destroying any data but making the university aware that even an ordinary hacker can alter the marks cards, examination results by using simple techniques on its website.

According to Shravan Kumar, he had hacked the university website for the first time a year ago. “Officers assured of improving the safety mechanism. But they didn’t,” he said.

“As all the data are uploaded on the university website it is very easy for a hacker to play with the data,” he added
