Bengaluru: A baby elephant, which had fallen inside 30 feet deep open well in Uppupalam village on Bengaluru-Tamil Nadu border has been rescued.

On Friday night a baby elephant, approximately one-year-old had fallen inside an open well in the said village. The open well was dry and the calf kept trumpeting whole night for help.

Locals who heard the baby elephant screaming informed the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu forest department authorities.

As it was not possible to lift the elephant with any vehicle, it was decided to level the well so that the calf could walk out.

A JCB was brought on Saturday afternoon and the well was opened up.

According to the forest department authorities, the baby elephant has walked into the forest.
