Election for all 11 seats of LC on June 11

Bengaluru: The election for the 11 seats of Karnataka Legislative Council will be held on June 11.

After completing 6 years, B J Puttaswamy, D S Veeraiah, Raghunath Rao Malkapure, M B Bhanu Prakash of BJP, C M Ibrahim, M R Sitharam, Motamma, Sayyad Mudeer and K Govindaraj of Congress will be retiring from the Legislative Council on June 17.

Byrathi Suresh has resigned from the Legislative Council membership as he has been elected as the MLA from Hebbal constituency. Somanna Bevinamarada also submitted resignation to the upper house as a mark of protest as he didn’t get the ticket from BJP to contest Assembly election. However, his tenure ends with others.

In the newly formed 15th Legislative Assembly, there are 221 members with BJP-104, Congress-78, JDS-37 and 2 independent MLAs. Elections for the Jayanagar and Raja Rajeshwari Nagar constituencies are pending. The election is yet to be announced for the Ramanagar constituency which is vacated by the Chief Minister-elect H D Kumaraswamy as he is elected from both the constituencies.

Election analysts predict that Congress-JDS coalition and independents may win 6, BJP may win 5 seats to the Legislative Council. May 31 is the last date to file nominations and June 4 will be the last date to withdraw it. Voting will be held on June 11 (9 am to 4 pm) and counting will be on June 11.
