Bengaluru: Disqualified MLA Muniratna has knocked on the Supreme Court’s doors after the Election Commission did not announce the date for the by-elections in the Rajarajeshwari (RR) Nagar Assembly constituency.
It is reported that the rebel MLA is expected to file a petition in the court tomorrow, while it continues to hear the case of the validity of the disqualification of the rebel MLAs by former Karnataka speaker Ramesh Kumar.
The EC did not announce the by-poll dates in the RR Nagar constituency because Muniratna was accused of printing fake voters’ lists prior to the 2018 Assembly elections. A case in this regard was filed in the Karnataka High Court and is still pending.
For the Maski Assembly constituency too, the by-poll dates have not been announced. Disqualified MLA from the constituency, Pratapgouda Patil has termed this as an ‘injustice.’
Here, the EC did not finalise the by-poll dates because Pratapgouda Patil is one among the disqualified 17 lawmakers who have filed a petition against their disqualification, a case that is currently being heard by the country’s top court. A judgement in connection with this case is expected to be out tomorrow.
