Bengaluru: State major irrigation minister DK Shivakumar performed special pujas and prayers at Rishyashringa temple in Kigga near Sringeri town of the Chikkamagaluru district on Thursday.
The pujas and prayers started at 5.30 am. DK Shivakumar was accompanied by endowment minister T Parameshwara Naik. The popular belief is that if the Rishyashringa deity is pleased, the god will bless with rain. Last year too, DKShi had performed special prayers and pujas at the same temple.
DKShi arrived at Sringeri on Wednesday night and met the seers of the Sringeri mutt. He also offered special prayers at the Sringeri temple. It can be recalled that 26 of the 30 districts of the state are reeling under severe drought now. Even the Malnad disricts Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga are also facing acute shortage of drinking water.
