DoE to start installing CCTV cameras in over 3000 government schools-1Bengaluru: Over 3000 government primary and high schools will be installed with CCTV cameras in phases, following instructions from Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. Each school will get four CCTV cameras, priority being given to schools with a larger number of girl students.

For the first step, the Department of Education (DoE) has released Rs 10 crores for the installation of the cameras.

As per reports, the four CCTV cameras in each school will be spread as such- one at the school entrance, one at the playground, one in the teacher's lobby and the last camera's position is to be decided by the local officials and school heads depending factors such as strategic locations and sensitivity.

Officials have stated that with the installation of these cameras, it would help provide a safe environment for the students and also alert the authorities of the entry of any unknown people onto the school campus.

This rule of installation of CCTV cameras was made mandatory in 2017, following a rise in sexual abuse cases of students.
