Bengaluru: The state government has now empowered the Deputy Commissioners of respective districts to stop illegal mining across the state.
The decision has been taken by the Karnataka Government after a few miners died at a stone quarry in the Shivamogga district, as it is currently under fire for allowing rampant illegal stone quarrying across the state.
Late on Thursday night, six persons died in a blast that was from reported from a stone quarry in Hunasodu, located 10 kilometres from Shivamogga city.
According to the order issued by the state government, the DCs will be given the power to regulate and stop mining activities. So far, the authority lay only with the officials of the mines and geology department.
