Bengaluru: After the Supreme Court annouced a balanced verdict in connection with the 17 disqualified MLAs of the state, some of them have given out their first reactions on the judgment on Wednesday, November 13.

A H Vishwanath from the Hunsur Constituency, who is considered to be the ‘mastermind’ behind the resignation of the 17 MLAs, reacted by saying, “I welcome the Apex Court’s decision. The court has rejected former speaker Ramesh Kumar’s decision to bar the 17 disqualified MLAs from contesting in elections for three years. We are all happy. When one is in the field of politics, elections are the most important.”

Pratapgouda Patil from the Maski Constituency said, “Although the SC’s verdict is not in our favour, there is a relief that it has allowed the disqualified MLAs to contest in the upcoming by-polls. We will definitely win in the by-polls.”

Shivaram Hebbar of the Yellapur Constituency said, “I was expecting such a verdict, as earlier, even the Election Commission of India had clearly stated that none of the disqualified MLAs can be restricted from contesting in the elections. No one, including Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, has contacted us. We will enter into election mode from tomorrow itself.”

Mahalakshmi Layout (Bengaluru North) constituency’s former MLA K Gopalaiah said, “I’m satisfied with the SC’s decision that we can, at least, contest in elections. I have the power of BJP. Any confusion within the party will be sorted out by the party’s high command. I’m confident that for the good deeds that I’ve done, I’ll be rewarded.”

B C Patil of the Hirekerur Constituency said, “I welcome the decision and I am of the hope that the people are with us.”

R Shankar of the Ranebennur Constituency said, “We had not tendered our resignations. Our MLA posts should have been retained.”

Muniratna from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Constituency said, “The copy of the verdict, especially pertaining to me and Pratapgouda Patil, should first be looked into and understood. All the disqualified MLAs are of the confidence that they will win on their own ability.”

M T B Nagaraj of Hoskote Constituency has said, “The verdict has not come according to our expectations. Nevertheless, we are happy to know that the Apex Court has given us a chance to contest in the elections. As I’ve won thrice, I’m confident that victory will be mine yet again. I know the pulse of the people.”
