Bengaluru: Supreme Court Collegium has appointed Meghalaya High court Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court on Thursday.

At present Chief Justice H G Ramesh is serving as the in-charge CJ after the retirement of Justice S K Mukharji on October 9, 2017. The Collegium has made public the ten names recommended for the post of Chief Justices of 10 High Courts.

The five-member collegium, which comprised of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice J Chelameswar and Ranjan Gogoi had recommended the name of Dinesh Maheshwari on January 10, though Maheshwari is junior to Ramesh under All India Seniority of High Court Judges. As Ramesh had rejected the Chief Justice post, his junior in service has been appointed to the post.

Dinesh Maheshwari had taken oath as Chief Justice of Meghalaya on February 24, 2016.
