Bengaluru: It was lung cancer that claimed the life of Union Minister Ananth Kumar who passed away in the wee hours of Monday at a private cancer hospital in the city.
According to the doctors who treated him, Delhi’s air pollution may have been what caused his cancer. “He was a non-smoker. There were no other reasons for his cancer, except the pollution levels in Delhi,” said a doctor who wished to remain anonymous.
According to an oncologist, a year ago, Ananth had developed a chronic cough. “Cancer could have developed in him either in January or February but it was diagnosed in the month of June. By that time, it was in the advanced stage,” he explained.
“Except for diabetes, he did not suffer from any other disease. He was healthy,” he added.
