Bengaluru: DCM, home minister and Bengaluru Development minister Dr G Parameshwar has proposed a ban on the new vehicle registration in Bengaluru city. Speaking in an event in the city on Thursday late evening, he stated, ” Unless we take drastic steps it is impossible to control the growth in number of vehicles in the city, which has already choked city roads.”

“In Bengaluru city, the vehicle population crossed 76 lakhs. The roads are blocked due to the pressure. Every day one thousand new vehicles are added to the city roads. Only option infront of the government is banning the new vehicle registration in the city atleast for two years,” he stated. However, according to the officers from the state transport department, this proposal is not realistic.

“Vehicle registration is one of the major sources of revenue for the state government. Already the state government is finding it difficult to adjust the resources for the loan waiver. So, this proposal is not practical,’ informed an officer from the department.
