Bengaluru: The cyber crime cases continue to increase in the city. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, compared to the previous year (2017), the number of cyber cases jumped by whopping 300% in the year 2018 till November 3, 2018.
According to the NCRB data, between January 1 and November 3, 2018, a total number of 3,953 Cyber Crime, mostly cyber fraud cases are reported in the city. According to the data, in Cyber Crime cases, Bengaluru is in the second place and most of the Cyber Crime cases are related to online banking frauds. Though a special cell has been set up in the city police commissioner’s office on Queen’s Road, it has not done much good due to the shortage of qualified, technically strong staff.
A senior officer informed that the city police has sought permission to start eight dedicated Cyber Crime police stations across the city to track the cases and detain the accused. “The state home department has approved the proposal. Once these stations start operations, we can carry proper investigation,” informed an officer.
