Bengaluru: Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has suspended Belagavi Panthers team from the Karnataka Premier League (KPL). This decision has been taken following the arrest of the team owner Asfaq Thara by the CCB police.

The KSCA secretary (in-charge) Sudhakara Rao announced the decision of suspending both the team and its owner from the KPL activities.

The team was runners up in the first season of the tournament in 2009-10 and won the KPL in the year 2017-18.

It has been alleged that the team management was involved in the cricket betting scam. It is also alleged that a few players were also lured to accept huge sum to help the betting syndicate which was operated from North India.
