Bengaluru: Congress corporator and former mayor R Sampath Raj has been named as an accused by the Central Crime Branch in the violence that took place in Bengaluru’s DJ Halli and KG Halli areas in August.

According to a report by TNM, a top officer investigating the case said that Raj has been named as one of the accused in the case as he was among those who had information about the violence and did not share the same with the police.

The former mayor was questioned by police twice for several hours along with Pulakeshinagar Congress corporator Abdul Rakeeb Zakir. They have, however, not yet been arrested.

It can be recalled that Arun Kumar, Raj’s personal assistant was arrested for allegedly staying in touch with people involved in the violence that rocked Bengaluru on the night of August 11, when a mob attacked a police station and the residence of Congress MLA R Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy after a social media post made by the lawmaker’s relative.

As many as 300 people have been arrested so far. The arrested include SDPI leader Muzammil Pasha.

The case is also being investigated by the National Investigation Agency, who have nabbed the prime accused.
