Bengaluru: Following Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s remarks on Saturday regarding his unhappiness at having to be at the helm of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, members of the Congress party have come forward to console him.
On Saturday, at a felicitation party organised for him by party workers, the CM broke down saying, “You all are happy as I became the Chief Minister, but I’m not… I know the pain of the coalition government. I became vishakant (Lord Shiva who drank poison) swallowing the pain of this coalition government.” He then added that he wanted to become Chief Minister to solve the problems of the people and fulfil the unfinished agenda of his father but, the people did not give him the majority.
In response to HDK’s breakdown, Congress leader and Deputy CM G Parameshwara assured that the CM was happy. “If he’s happy we will all be happy,” he said.
Expressing empathy for the CM’s situation, Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge said, “Running a coalition government is always a problem and one can only face them.” He asked HDK to keep courage and face the situations that will arise. “He has to fulfil the desire of the people,” he added.
HDK had, on another occasion, expressed his unhappiness at being the CM of a coalition government. Fresh after taking his oath as the new CM, Kumaraswamy had expressed his unhappiness at not having won the majority.
