Congress ministers offer to quit to keep alliance intact

Bengaluru: In a bid to help keep the Congress-JDS alliance stable, four Congress ministers on Monday, have reportedly offered to step down from their respective posts. This is being seen as a response to the rising panic regarding the BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’.

All 104 BJP MLAs have been camping in New Delhi for the past few days. While the Congress and JDS have perceived this as a meeting to topple the state government, the BJP has claimed that they are merely planing out what they need to do for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara, held a breakfast meeting with the Congress ministers on Monday to discuss the threat of the BJP’s ‘Operation Kamal’. They are determined to keep the alliance with the JDS intact as they go into the general elections and to this end, are willing to make sacrifices in the party’s interest.

Major irrigation minister D K Shivakumar’s claim that three Congress MLAs are camping in Mumbai has caused a lot of panic for the Congress and the JDS. While speculations are rife that they might be jumping ship to join the BJP, the party leaders have expressed their faith in the absconding MLAs.

DR G P told reporters that although they don’t know why the MLAs have gone to Mumbai, they are confident that their MLAs will not join the BJP. “We will do what we can to bring them back,” he said adding that the government is secure.

The JDS, meanwhile, are taking matters into their own hands and are reportedly preparing their own ‘Operation JDS’ to counter the BJP and have identified at least five of the BJP’s MLAs who are willing to switch sides if worse comes to worst.
