Bengaluru: To counter Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) programme ‘Bengaluru Rakshisi’, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on March 20 announced the launch of ‘Namma Bengaluru Namma Hemme’ (Our Bengaluru Our Pride).

“BJP leaders are making false allegations which tarnish the image of Bengaluru. We are planning to organize Namma Bengaluru Namma Hemme programme for 10 days in the city. Our objective is to meet the people in 28 Assembly segments in the city and explain about the false allegations being made by the BJP leaders,’’ KPCC Working President Dinesh Gundu Rao told media persons at the KPCC office.

The Congress yatra would cover all the constituencies in the city through rallies and public meetings. “Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy will release the charge-sheet against the BJP at KR Puram on Wednesday,’’ Rao said.

The KPCC has also unveiled an exclusive website: http://nammabengaluru.nammasarkara.in and has also released two booklets detailing the contribution of the Congress government towards developing Bengaluru city.

The booklets not only list out the achievements of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Bengaluru Development Minister K J George but also emphasise the failure of the BJP while they were in power in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said Bengaluru has its own image worldwide but the BJP leaders are defaming Bengaluru by making false allegations. “Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) task force was formed during BJP regime. Rajeev Chandrasekhar was the convener of the ABIDe. He failed to implement a single programme of the ABIDe,’’ George said.

Coming down heavily on Rajeev Chandrasekhar for filing cases and making false allegations, Minister George has described him as an anti-Bengaluru who is busy in defaming the city. “I do not want to mention his name in front of the media because he doesn’t deserve any respect. He is not for Bengaluru,’’ George said.

The minister has also described the BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as anti-Karnataka and anti-Bengaluru. “Earlier, whenever international leaders visit our country they never missed visiting Bengaluru. Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks world leaders to visit Ahmedabad and Gujarat. Modi is the Prime Minister for the country. He is not the Prime Minister Ahmedabad or Gujarat,’’ he blamed.

Ridiculing Union Minister Javadekar for making false claims on the release of Central funds for the development of Bellandur Lake, he said the Union Minister, accompanied by Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali, made tall claims on allocating funds but released nothing for the development of Bellandur Lake. “These are the people who believe in issuing statements and delivering speeches than making efforts to release the funds,’’ he said.

The minister also recalled the Prime Minister’s speech at Bengaluru Palace grounds on February 4. “Prime Minister said the Centre allocated Rs 17,000 crore for Bengaluru Suburban Rail project. The actual allocation, as mentioned in the Pink Book, is only Rs 1 crore. Telling lies has become a habit for BJP leaders,’’ he said.

He said Siddaramaiah government has allocated funds for the development of Bengaluru.

Minister for Home Ramalinga Reddy emphasised how the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) became bankrupt during the BJP regime. “The BBMP has a liability of Rs 8,000 crore when Congress came to ruling in the BBMP. We have cleared the loan and released the BBMP properties that were mortgaged during the BJP regime. I am of the opinion that BJP leaders deserve a Kempe Gowda award for telling lies,’’ Ramaling Reddy said.

He said the BBMP got ‘C’ grade in finance management during the BJP regime. “Now, the BBMP got ‘A’ grade during Congress regime,’’ he said.
