Bengaluru: The political analysts and pundits have always maintained that the suspense the Congress knits around its candidates has been one of the major reasons for the uncalled for confusions and chaos in the party. However, the suggestions were left unattended so far by the national party. But, as if a new wave of change is embracing the Congress, for the first time in the history of the grand old party, the Congress is all set to announce the names of 150 candidates in Karnataka, way before the polls.

The system of announcing candidates before polls has been the culture of the BJP and this has worked well in its favour because, their arch rival- Congress would place ‘question marks’ as candidates before the voters during every election. Finally, when the Congress announces its candidates, there would be outbreak of fights and confusions, leaving the top leadership busy extinguishing the fire.

Learning lessons from the same, the Congress has now decided to make necessary changes and this particular change is being initiated in Karnataka, which is running into elections soon.

AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the state from February 10-12. Karnataka has now become a prestige issue for the Congress. The BJP has been planting victory flag in Congress ruled states and with this, retaining power in Karnataka has become inevitable for the Congress and more so for the newly elected national chief of the party.

Within 15 days of Rahul Gandhi’s visit, the first list of 150 candidates will be released while the second list of 74 candidates will be released later.

One may have to wait and watch if the time tested formula of the BJP would work in favour of the Congress or not.
