Bengaluru: The Congress’ decision to field Rizwan Arshad as the party candidate from the Shivajinagar Assembly segment is likely to backfire as, according to sources, there were 20 other aspirants for the seat.
Rizwan filed his nomination earlier today, to contest from the Shivajinagar constituency, which was previously represented by disqualified MLA Roshan Baig.
Reportedly, some of the Congress leaders are not happy with the decision to field Rizwan.
Sources say that some of the distressed party leaders even told him to file his nomination in the presence of those who had given him the ticket, as they did not want to accompany him.
Some suspect that former chief minister Siddaramaiah is behind Rizwan’s selection as candidate from the Shivajinagar.
It can be recalled that recently, Roshan Baig had said that he would support any other candidate other than Rizwan.
