Cong-JD(S) govt did not do enough for flood victims: Nalin Kumar Kateel

Bengaluru: The BJP Karnataka President Nalin Kumar Kateel alleged that the Congress-JD(S) government had not done enough for the flood and drought-hit victims of the state when they were in power.

Speaking to ANI, Kateel said, “The state government has released Rs 3,000 crores and has also sent money to the beneficiary accounts through RTGS. Earlier, the then Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had told people that he would only release funds in accordance with the NDRF guidelines.”

“But CM BSY has released the funds already. The Chief Minister has also visited the flood-affected areas,” he added.

Responding to the Centre’s delay in providing funds, Kateel said, “It is natural to expect funds from the Central Government. However, there is a process that needs to be followed. The survey cannot be done at once. Floods have happened at different intervals this year. The survey revealed that flood-related loss in Karnataka is approximately Rs 30,000 crores.”

Kateel’s remarks came after opposition parties alleged that the Centre had nothing but “apathy” for the state.

Even as the Centre sanctioned Rs 1,200 crores to Karnataka for flood-relief works on Friday, October 4, opposition parties insisted that the amount was nowhere nearly enough to carry out developmental work in the state.
