Bengaluru: Hitting back at the Congress party, who earlier staged a protest against the Central and state governments demanding a release of relief funds, home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that they have no moral standing to make such demands.
Speaking to ANI, the minister said that the Congress had no right to protest as in 2009, when floods hit parts of the state, they didn’t do anything. “The Congress was in power at the Centre but in the initial months, they did not take any steps to help. They don’t have the moral right to ask for more funds for relief works,” he said.
It can be recalled that earlier, the Congress party, led by former chief minister Siddaramaiah, held a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue near the Vidhana Soudha, against the Central government. They demanded that the Centre release more relief funds for the flood-affected districts of the state.
