Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has initiated the process of removing the advertisements displayed on around 4,000 buses in the city.
As the corporation had received many complaints from the public that the advertisements prevented them from viewing the scenery outside and caused problems, it decided to remove advertisements displayed on the windows.
BMTC Managing Director V Ponnuraj said, “The memorandum of understanding for the advertisement was finalised on June 30. A new agreement is in place to install advertisements on the rear of 1,000 buses. But, it would take some time.”
By providing an opportunity to install advertisements in 5,000 buses, BMTC would get additional revenue up to Rs 1 Crore per month. Though they remove the advertisements in bus windows, there would not be any loss. “The advertisement rate has been increased. More buses would carry advertisements on the rear end. So, there will not be any loss. Instead, the estimated revenue would increase by around Rs 1 Crore of revenue per month”, an official said.
