Bengaluru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will take a final decision on the selling of 3,666 acres of land in the Ballari district to the Jindal company today. If sources are to be believed, he is unlikely to approve the proposal fearing damage to his government’s reputation.
According to the sources, various farmers’ organisations are opposing the move, terming it as ‘anti-farmer’. “HDK is battling a serious image crisis. Recently, his popularity took a hit when the Lok Sabha election results were announced. To re-establish himself as ‘pro-farmer’, he is expected to defer the decision,” said a JDS leader.
Meanwhile, the Congress’ effort to create a consensus among the party leaders on the issue has failed. On Saturday, June 8 night, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao held a meeting with party leader H K Patil and industries minister K J George. Patil refused to change his stand and made it clear that he will continue to oppose the sale of land to Jindal.
