Bengaluru: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reschedule the voting date for 13 states, including Karnataka, currently fixed on April 18. This is being done keeping in mind that April 18 is Maundy Thursday, a day of solemnity for Christians all over the world.
The CBCI has written a letter to the ECI in this regard.
In its letter to the ECI, the CBCI informed that this day is observed one day before Good Friday. “So the ECI must look into the issue. To ensure that Christians will not face any problems in casting their vote, the date should be rescheduled,” it urged.
