Bengaluru: A Christian delegation, led by Bengaluru Diocese Archbishop Dr. Peter Machado, met Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday, January 5, and held a discussion on the controversies surrounding the installation of a Jesus Christ Statue.
The Christian community is planning to install a stone-statue of Jesus Christ at Kapali Betta in Harobele near Kanakapura town. Congress leader DK Shivakumar’s assurance of help led to a controversy as BJP and pro-Hindu organizations opposed the installation. They claimed that the hill belongs to Hindus.
Members of the delegation requested the CM not to politicise the issue. They also informed him that the plan to install a statue there was an old one and community members have been worshipping in the area for several years.
They also requested Yediyurappa not to stop work on the statue. In response, the CM is said to have assured them of looking into the matter.
