Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Rural Police have begun penalizing those persons whose vehicles bear number plates that have been deemed illegal under the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act 2019.

Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural) Ravi D Channannavar on Tuesday, January 21, warned of taking stringent action against vehicle bearing illegal number plates, such as those bearing names of organizations.

He said that all the police stations coming under Bengaluru Rural jurisdiction have been given directions in this regard.

SP Ravi informed that a special drive was organized to revoke all fancy number plates according to the directions of the Karnataka High Court.

“Vehicle owners violating the Motor Vehicles Act 2019 are already being penalized and they have been directed to change the number plates as well. One week’s time will be given to the owner of the vehicle to change the number plate. If the instructions are not followed, violators will be subjected to stringent legal actions,” he said.

It can be noted that the number plates which have logos and signs representing or matching national symbols and emblems are strictly prohibited. Such vehicle owners are liable for a penalty of Rs 500 as per the law.
