Buddha statue controversy: BU to form committee headed by retired HC judge

Bengaluru: The Bangalore University syndicate, which met on Wednesday decided to form a committee headed by a retired High Court judge to take a final decision on the Buddha statue.

The meeting also decided to install the Saraswathi statue in its original place. The meeting has given authority to VC KR Venugopal to select the retired High Court judge for the committee.

It can be recalled that the University campus in Nagarabhavi witnessed tension after installation of the statue of Buddha in the university’s administrative block entrance, in place of statue of goddess Saraswathi. Now both the statues of Buddha and Saraswathi are kept together in two separate pedestals.

Following the incident the state government had directed the university to maintain status quo and initiate action against all those who were behind this controversy.
