Bengaluru: Rescue teams have been pressed into service in BTM layout, one of the upmarket areas of the city after hundreds of houses remained inundated following a flood in Hulimavu lake.
The incident happened on Sunday evening.
The dirty water from the lake entered hundreds of houses. The floodwater stood at six feet when the rescue teams rushed to the BTM layout. It is estimated that at least 250 houses have been affected in the lake breach and efforts are on to bring them to safety.
The police pressed several boats into service to rescue the citizens. Thousands of vehicles have been damaged in the incident. This is the second time that the lake has breached in the span of a few weeks. As per sources, an attempt of some people to lay pipe with the help of an earthmover led to the incident.
