BMTC to have pink coloured ladies’seats soon

Bengaluru: In a new move, the BMTC buses will have pink covers on Ladies’ seats. Transport Minister H M Revanna informed that the ladies seats in 39 new BMTC buses have been covered and the work is under progress to cover the ladies seats with pink covers in 65 more buses.

Addressing the media persons, he said that in total, 104 buses with pink seats will be plying soon. Based on the response of the passengers, such seats will be installed on more buses.

Speaking on ‘Traffic-less Day’, the minister said that the city recorded 26% dip in pollution on the day, especially in Jayanagar, which recorded 34% less pollution. “This has boosted us to celebrate the next ‘Traffic-less Day’ more effectively. On that day there was a concession on BMTC day pass and Metro smart card. In BMTC, 66,836 people purchased the day pass for the journey,” HR said adding that he would pass an order that all staff of the department should use public transport system on the day. “I will request the public representatives to use buses,” he said.

“We have requested the Chief Minister on declaring free student bus pass till SSLC and concession pass to laborers in the name of Indira Bus Pass. We also request him to provide funds to establish full-fledged terminals wherever required and hi-tech terminals on all sides of the city. The electric buses will be introduced in Northeast and Southeast Karnataka Road Transport Corporation,” he said.
