Bengaluru: After May 23, the day the Lok Sabha election results will be announced, the city’s residents will need to brace for a huge increase in charges of various services including BMTC ticket fares, BESCOM electricity tariffs, and water charges. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has prepared a draft proposal on increasing the water charges.

Tushar Girinath, chairman, BWSSB informed that the draft proposal on the revision of the water tariff is ready and it will soon be submitted to the urban development department for approval. “The revision will be done keeping in mind everyone’s interests,” he stated.

According to sources, the BWSSB is planning to increase the tariff by 20%. Presently, the BWSSB is charging Rs 100 for 8,000 litres of water per month and Rs 200 for 8,000 litres of borewell water.

It can be recalled that the BMTC and BESCOM also hinted that there will be a tariff revision immediately after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results.
