Bengaluru: Following the lockdown, the state-run BMTC has proposed a 20% increase in ticket prices.
According to sources, the corporation sent a proposal to State Transportation Minister Laxman Savadi in this regard. After discussing with the Chief Minister, he is likely to make a final decision.
The last time the BMTC raised ticket prices was in 2015.
According to BMTC sources, the lockdown has cost the State about Rs 1,000 crore in the last year because services have been severely affected. BMTC has requested a substantial fair hike to compensate these losses. However, with no clear indication of when the operations will resume, the state administration is unlikely to make a decision in this regard very soon.
