Bengaluru: In a bid to attract more passengers, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to launch online seat booking facility for the passengers on its Volvo buses.
According to the plans, the BMTC is planning to provide pick up and drop facility for the passengers in the nearest bus stop of their office/ residences. “In a bid to attract passengers who are switching to app based cabs and bikes, we are planning this initiative,” informed a BMTC officer. “We are yet to finalise the proposal. First we will launch it on the airport services. If it succeeds we will then expand this to other Volvo services too,” he said.
Presently, BMTC is operating 800 Volvo bus schedules which are considered as the white elephants due to the huge operational loss. “Plan is that passengers will be allowed to book ticket via BMTC app which is already activated. Contact numbers of bus crew will be shared with passengers and vice-versa to ensure that pick up and drop can be done without any glitches,” he explained.
It can be recalled that till no more than 1 lakh people have downloaded BMTC app which is available on google app store.
