Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the post of Legislative Council Deputy Chairman, M K Pranesh won the election that was held on Friday.

It can be recalled that the BJP had joined hands with the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) ahead of the elections. According to the agreement reached between the parties, the BJP would contest the election for the post of Deputy Chairman, while the JD(S) would contest for the post of Council Chairman.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, BJP candidate Pranesh won the election with 41 votes, supported by the JD(S).

On Thursday, senior JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horatti said that the party would back the anti-cow slaughter bill in the Karnataka Legislative Council, where it is to be tabled.

“Will lend 100 per cent support to the anti-cow slaughter bill”, he asserted, IANS reported.

The election for the post of Council Deputy Chairman was held after the post was left vacant owing to the alleged suicide of the JD(S)’ S L Dharmegowda.
