Bengaluru: The BJP and JD(S) will join hands to contest in the Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman and Deputy Chairman posts.
The election for this post is scheduled to be held on January 29.
As per the agreement reached by the two parties, the JD(S) will get the Chairman’s post and their candidate for the same will be Basavaraja Horatti, senior JD(S) MLC.
Meanwhile, the BJP is yet to decide its nominee for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Council. The deadline to file nominations for the election is Thursday afternoon.
It can be recalled that the Deputy Chairman’s post fell vacant after the alleged suicide of BL Dharmegowda of the JD(S).
As it stands, none of the parties has a majority in the 75-member Council.
