Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sarala Mahesh won Lakkasandra ward by-poll in Bengaluru by a margin of 2,414 votes. Sarala Mahesh got 7,683 votes while Congress candidate D Mohan got 5,224 votes. The total votes polled were 13,054 during the polling held on Sunday. The by-poll was necessitated due to the death of Mahesh Babu (BJP) in a road accident. It may be recalled Mahesh Babu and two others were killed in the road accident on July 17 while returning to Bengaluru from Mysuru after visiting Chamundi Hills. The road mishap took place at Gowripura near Srirangapatna.
Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy had canvassed for Congress candidate D Mohan. The minister was confident of Mohan’s success since he contested unsuccessfully from Lakkasandra ward to the BBMP Council for three times. The minister expected the voters to sympathise with Mohan, but in vain.
Speaking with media persons, Sarala Mahesh has thanked BJP activists who worked for her success in the election. “I want to dedicate my success in the election to my late husband. I will work hard to meet the expectations of the voters of Lakkasandra ward,” Sarala Mahesh said.
