Bengaluru Police file case against Infosys techie for ‘spread the virus’ post

Bengaluru: After Infosys fired their employee Mujeeb Mohammed for his “spread the virus” post regarding the coronavirus, a case was registered against the man by the Bengaluru Police.

Mujeeb Mohammed had recently tweeted, “Let’s join hands, go out and sneeze with open mouth in public. Spread the virus. Spread the word to end the word.”

After the incident, Infosys conducted an investigated the matter and sacked Mujeeb in accordance with their policies.

“The social media post by the employee is against Infosys’ code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee,” the company tweeted.

Responding to Infosys’ tweet, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Bengaluru city tweeted, “Case has been registered against the person.. further investigation on.. looking forward to get adequate support from your end during the investigation..[sic]”

In India, there are currently over 800 COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths. The country has been put on a 21-day lockdown to control the spread of the deadly virus.
