Bangalore: Sangeet Sadhana (School of Music and Arts) organized ‘Benarasiya’ – a Hindustani classical music concert where Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan – Sajan Misra performed live at Gayana Samaj, Bangalore. The event, organized as a tribute to the ‘Queen of Thumri’, Padma Vibhushan Vidushi Girija Devi (Benaras Gharana), was held on January 14 at 6 pm.

The concert was performed to a full house where the renowned singers Pandit Rajan Misra and Sajan Misra, hailing from the Benaras Gharana, delighted the audience of Bengaluru with their impressive style of classical renditions.

The duo has performed all over the world and has been awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Academy Award by the honorable President of India. As the tradition continues, the 300-year-old legacy of the Benaras Gharana has now been promoted and preserved by the maestros.

In an attempt to promote Hindustani classical music, Sangeet Sadhana has taken the initiative to present this concert in Bengaluru. The music school has the lineage and traditions of Agra Gharana, which has been preserved by Anindita Mukherjee, Founder of Sangeet Sadhana. She learned Hindustani classical music for 22 years from the veteran musician, ‘The First Lady of Raag Pradhan’: Vidhushi Late Deepali Nag of Agra Gharana. Sangeet Sadhana now continues to embrace, worship, propagate and promote Hindustani classical music.

The event was sponsored by Cytecare Cancer Hospitals, Grand Mercure, Scullers, Chariot World Tours, Radio Fever 104 FM, News Karnataka, Prestige, and Thousand Suns.

About Sangeet Sadhana:

Sangeet Sadhana – School of Music and Arts follows the traditional style of Guru – Shishya Parampara. However, the school strives to provide a modern approach of teaching methods to focus on each and every student. The Agra Gharana is known for the stress it gives to laya (rhythm), and the importance given to bol banaav, layakari, bol taans, meends (glides) and gamak taans (powerful ornamentation). The teachers closely nurture the students to improve their musical skills and encourage them to practice Hindustani Classical music.
