Bengaluru: The #IWIllGoOut Bengaluru Chapter- a movement for women to reclaim public spaces – has finally got police permission for the first march of 2017 for women in the city.

#IWillGoOut is a campaign that started as a Facebook phenomenon and gained nation-wide support after several incidents of molestation reported in the city on New Year’s eve. The march will begin from the KSR Bengaluru City railway station at 5 pm on Saturday and will conclude at Freedom Park at around 8 pm.

Among those participating in the march are actor Suman Nagarkar and social activist Pushpa Achanta besides organisations like Blank Noise, Vimochana, Fearless Collective and Jhatkaa. It is also expected that students of several colleges will participate in the walk.
The event will also see performances by musician and graphic designer Bindhumalini of Swarathma and street performer Avril Unger at Freedom Park

“#IWillGoOut anytime, anywhere I want freely, fearlessly and so should you. It’s our right and entitlement,” said Pushpa.Divya Titus, one of the organisers said, “#IWillGoOut because as an Indian woman I have the right to freely move in this country and for my safety to be ensured in public spaces.”

Gatherings are also expected to be organized across 21 cities in the country today.
