Bengaluru: Sleuths from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have arrested a Bengaluru resident in Guwahati on Friday, October 19, for printing and circulating counterfeit notes across the country. He will be brought to Bengaluru soon.
According to sources, the arrested accused has been identified as Akbar Ali (40), who has been residing in Bengaluru since 2007. “He is a resident of Malda in Bengal. He relocated to Bengaluru in 2007 and started printing and circulating counterfeit notes. Recently, the NIA launched an investigation into this racket following the seizure of Rs. 5 lakhs in counterfeit notes from Hyderabad. As the investigation progressed, they found that this racket is operated from Bengaluru. Ali, who came to know about the investigation, fled to Assam. On Friday, NIA authorities were able to arrest him from a lodge in Assam’s capital city,” informed authorities.
