Bengaluru: The ‘BengaluruCityPolice (@BlrCityPolice)’ twitter account which was launched by the Bengaluru city police with an objective of reaching information regarding the police department to the public now has 10 lakh followers!
Observing the increasing usage of social media, especially among urban people, the Bengaluru Police started the twitter account on August 14, 2014. Now, with 10 lakh followers, it has got the fame of being first among the police twitter accounts of the country with most number of followers.
Police Commissioner T Sunil Kumar defines the twitter account as a joint family with 10 lakh members. “In fact, it helped us a lot to develop contact with the public. We will be more active with our twitter account as we know that at least 10 lakh people will be observing us, whatever we do,” he said.
Meanwhile, the twitter account of Bengaluru Traffic police – ‘BTP(@blrcitytraffic)’ has 4.36 lakh followers. The Facebook account of Bengaluru City Police- BENGALURU CITY POLICE(@blrcitypolice)’ is liked by 6.15 lakh people. The numbers are also constantly increasing.
For the 24X7 maintenance of social networks, a separate department is working under DCP of the command centre. More than 20 staff work in three shifts for the 24-hour maintenance. They upload information and receive complaints through the social sites and inform the respective officer.
