Bengaluru: The State government and the BMRCL are both astounded by the splendid response to the full-fledged Green Line service kicked off between Nagasandra and Yalachenahalli. As per statistics, a romping three lakh passengers reportedly traveled on the first week day (Monday), after the completion of Phase I.
According to the official data released by the BMRCL, on Monday June 19, 3.07 lakh passengers used Purple and Green Line together, which is equal to some 4,250 buses. “For the first time in last one decade, roads connecting KR Market, Malleshwaram-Majestic were eased out. We will lose huge revenue. But the popular response to the Namma Metro proved that city needs such a big ticket infrastructure,” sources in BMRCL said.
Meanwhile, following the huge rush on all major metro stations especially more and more school students opting the metro service to reach schools, the BMRCL has decided to join hands with state Home Guards department to hire the services of trained manpower. According to the BMRCL station managers, since a couple of days, on peak hours, home guards personnel are used to monitor the passengers in the places of private security personnel. “Home guards are better trained. On Monday, we witnessed tens of school going children using the Green Line. Presently we don’t have enough private security personnel to monitor the huge volume,” said an officer.
