Bengaluru: The time taken for checking in your luggage at Bengaluru airport will now be reduced because starting today, they have installed an automatic baggage check-in facility for the passengers.

Officials of the airport explained that the passengers who opt for a web check-in would be able to drop their bags without waiting in the long queues and hence directly move to the boarding gate. After this, the passenger has to enter his PNR number into a kiosk which will provide a boarding pass and the tagged luggage will be routed to the cargo hold.

They also announced that this facility would be available initially for only 16 counters belonging to AirAsia and SpiceJet but would later be scaled up to all 83 counters of the airport if it is found effective.

The KIA has now become the second airport in the country after Terminal 1 in Mumbai airport where a self bag drop system has been implemented.

This comes after the airport announced its intention to become the first airport in Asia to have an end-to-end solutions for paperless travel. It also is readying a biometric self-boarding technology which will help in boarding of the passengers without the need of a boarding pass. This system will be used for JetAirways and SpiceJet planes in the beginning and introduced in the first quarter of 2019.
