Bengaluru: In the month of August, the Congress state unit faced several embarrassing moments following a verbal spat between KPCC women’s wing chief and MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar and Jarakiholi brothers over the Belagavi PLD bank election. Since then minister Ramesh Jarakiholi is not attending the state cabinet meeting. Even before the party is able to resolve the issues, another election is around the corner which has again divided the party Belagavi district unit.
Belagavi taluk APMC president and vice presidential election is scheduled on October 15. A total of 17 members are eligible to cast their votes. Among them, three are nominated members. “The Congress has 10 votes while opposition BJP and MES have 7 votes. If the Congress members are divided between the Hebbalkar and the Jarakiholi factions, then the opposition may win both the posts,” said a party leader from the Belagavi.
“The issue is brought to the notice of the KPCC leadership. A final decision is expected on Monday morning,” he said.
