Bengaluru: With the idea of ending open urination in the city, the BBMP has decided to build 601 new public toilets. All these proposed toilets will be inaugurated before October 2, 2019, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji.
According to BBMP authorities, presently there are only 613 toilets in the city spread over a 800-kilometer radius.
“The BBMP is sitting on 4,463 applications seeking financial assistance for the construction of individual toilets. Instead of providing support for individuals, the BBMP has decided to build public toilets,” informed an officer.
“The Central government will release Rs 19.38 crores for the construction of these 601 toilets. The remaining amount must be paid by the BBMP. The biggest issue will be identifying the location,” he explained.
