Bengaluru: A tragic incident reported from the city on September 9 where four people died when a tree fell on the car in which they were traveling has led to another controversy.
The BBMP, in accordance with its relief policy had issued cheques of Rs 5 lakh to the nearest relative of the deceased a day after the incident. However, it is gathered that the BBMP has stopped the clearance of a cheque issued to the wife of one of the deceased Jagadish following objections raised by his family.
According to Mayor G Padmavathi, BBMP had issued a cheque in favor of Jagadish’s wife Roopa. But his parents wanted their share in the relief money stating he is the only son and his wife is not ready to share the amount. “Parents are saying they need share as they have no other children. Even though we requested Roopa to share some amount, she is not ready. So we stopped payment,” says G Padmavathi.
Roopa hit back at her in-laws stating that she has two kids and she needs money to look after them. “When Jagadish was alive, no one has taken care of us. Now everyone wants the share in relief money,” she alleged.
