Bengaluru
: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken the digital road with the launch of DiGi7, a system that provides a seven-digit unique identification to properties across the city.

The new system, launched by Bengaluru Development and Town Planning Minister K.J. George on Thursday, was developed in-house, by a team led by Special Commissioner (IT) Manoj Rajan.

The BBMP has already assigned unique IDs to around 19 lakh properties, spread over 800 sq.km. This number, which is alphanumeric, will be the permanent identifier for its location, be it property type, owner, ward boundary, etc.

Citizens will be able to use DiGi7 to identify properties, get directions and navigate to an address, and share the details via SMS, WhatsApp or other mobile applications. The shared locations can be saved as a bookmark on the app. At a later stage, citizens can use DiGi7 for service requests from the BBMP, such as grievance reporting, utility servicing or applying for building plans.

BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad said that in the first phase, all properties under the property tax net have been covered. In the second phase, properties under the Bengaluru Development Authority will be identified.
