BBMP health department fines 18 apartments for Rs 18 lakhs

Bengaluru: The residents of 18 apartments in Bengaluru city are being forced to cough up Rs 18 lakh in fines towards the health department of the BBMP for failing to adhere to the waste segregation at source rule.

According to BBMP sources, the health department officials have imposed Rs 18 lakh as the fine for failing to ensure waste segregation at the source. Each apartment in the buildings needs to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

Manoranjan Hegde, health officer, BBMP, said that four days’ time has been given to the apartment management committees to collect the fine and credit it to the BBMP.

“These apartments are located in the Hoskerehalli, Padmanabhanagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Kempapura Agrahara, Ganesha Mandir, Yadiyur and Chikkasandra wards,” he said.
