Bengaluru: The BBMP, which is struggling to implement the waste segregation at source rule has now decided to follow a new trick to ensure that the public doesn’t mix the wet and dry wastes together. In a first of its kind experiment, the BBMP decided to float tenders only for the collection and the processing of the wet waste from the households and other places. This means, the pourakarmikas will only pick the wet waste and not take the dry waste!
According to the BBMP Commissioner Manjunatha Prasad, the tender rule states that the contractors have been paid only to collect the wet waste. “This will compel the people to segregate the waste at the source,” he said adding that in coming days, the BBMP is considering imposing a fine on those who mix dry waste with the wet waste. “This is the way forward. We are doing our best to find a solution,” he said.
