Bengaluru: The state urban development department issued a notification in regard to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) mayor and deputy mayoral elections, which will be held on September 28.

Mayor’s post has been reserved for the General category (woman) while deputy mayor’s post has been reserved for General category.

The JDS and the Congress are in power in the BBMP for the last three years. All these years the Congress candidate has been elected as the mayor while the JDS has been allocated the deputy mayor post.

This year, the BJP is trying to pose a serious challenge with increased strength in the total electorate which comprises of MLAs, MLCs and MPs.

“We have moved to court against the inclusion of few Congress MPs in the electorate,” said Padmanabha Reddy, leader of the opposition in the BBMP.

Meanwhile, JDS is demanding mayor post for its candidate keeping in mind its support for the Congress mayors in last three terms.
